This type of inefficiency in notifying homeowner/property owners that their properties are not in compliance is a joke. Other cities have "Certificates of Occupancy (COO)" that prevent people from moving into their homes/buying homes until the has been signed off by the cities. City of New Orleans does not seem to have this and now we are stuck with paying for a $30,000 modification to our property that the HDLC mandates must be done or we are fined! We bought the house this way!
Additionally, the members of the HDLC ask silly questions at board meetings like "is there a way to put in a chimney at the roofline without it being installed on the house?"(Feb 2014 HDLC meeting). Some of the people on the board have NO construction experience! They should not be there if they don't understand building/contruction processes!
