As he gets older (he’s 5 now) strategies of calming him down are harder to find and the meltdown can, and often does last the whole day. Being able to park closer to the shops without worrying about having to find a parking space would be amazing. People who don’t have a child who has autism should spend time with someone who does to experience the trauma parents go through, just so they have a better understanding.

Autism is a serious, life-long condition which can be accompanied by extremely challenging behaviour and/or physical lack of control and Blue Badges are therefore essential to many people with autism and their carers.

It is absolutely vital that Blue Badges be awarded where the behaviours of individuals such as Ryan, and my friend's son, warrant it. Those behaviours may vary widely so it should be on a case-by-case basis but autism should definitely be added to the criteria for awarding a Blue Badge.

Autism has major affects on the person who has it and them around them.It is very hard to manage out and about due to stress,anxiety,and sensory problems.

Getting from a car park to supermarket can cause major problems and it can be very dangerous for the person with autism and others.

There needs to be a change in the way Autism is looked at as a disability just because they can walk doesn't mean they are able to.

It is very distressing for parent,carers who have to fight for services that should be available it's hard enough looking after a person with Autism

Please change the law on blue badges so that a wider range of disabilities, including autistic children and adults, can have access to them. Unless you have an autistic person in your family it is hard to understand the difficulties they have and they can be very hard to cope with in public places when you have no idea how the autistic person will react to a situation. Please reconsider the law regarding blue badges.
