They seem to forget that pee is acid and eats into paint and cement and that people walk the pee into their house. Nor are police or animal control effective, and it is a lengthy and costly process to take others to court--which can backfire for the same reason animal control and police are usually ineffective at enforcing existing laws: adjudicators are themselves increasingly sympathetic to other dog owners.

If owners refuse to be responsible and manage the animals they chose to have, then at least allow the rest of us dog-free, safe, quiet zones where we can live without the menace of constant loud barking.

Finally had it and filed a complaint at the local police department. There is an ordinance against cats roaming and barking dogs. The policeman I talked with told me they would patrol the area and that I was to let them know when I would be working outside and they would drive by and observe the area. I had put in a new patio area and have to sit in a little corner where the dogs do not see me. If I cough, they know I am there and start the barking. The smell has been horrific this summer and it has got to be so unhealthy to breathe the urine that has saturated the ground. I think when I put my house on the market I would probably have to advertise it for an elderly person who has lost their sense of small and are deaf. Good prospect I think. I am 69 so maybe I could give it a few more years;)

Today our handyman got diarrhea when his dog drank out of his cup.
Dogs are the perfect example of a "negative externality" or "economic bad" where the "benefits" are enjoyed by one party (e.g. owner who likes dog licking his face) and the drawbacks (noise, aggressiveness, random defecation) are borne by innocent neighbors. Absolutely unfair.
Let's band together and try to start dog-free communities, buy a parcel of land and build a nice, clean, noise free neighborhood!

At the "dog" community, I witnessed numerous dog-related confrontations, one that resulted in an assault. I've also noticed elderly people in the no-dog community seem to be healthier and live longer than those who own dogs.

My wife is allergic and is always bombarded by loose dogs in our neighborhood. They lick her as she never has time to get away, even so, not right that she has to. She is plagued with rashes on her skin as a result. The neighbor two doors down has a dog that barks non stop every time it is let out. The noise pollution is unbearable. They are complete nuissance every time we step outside. They dirty us and our yard constantly and bi-laws are too weak to do anything about it. Dogs run free on the owners property and then just jump into our yard. The dog does not understand the boundaries. We just want to relax outside but can't find the peace we need.
