Being a teenager and listening to my moms stories of her working in the Carlton Center in the CBD hearing how nice Johannesburg city was. To think my mother, a woman use to walk on Johannesburgs pavements in the day and night and it was safe I s unheard of today. The sun and towers including the Carlton hotel were world renowned for their excellence in hospitality and dining but now they are like sunken ships in the ocean due to urban decay and lacking municipalities Johannesburg has become a "hustlers" magnet attracting the very opposite of what the business hub was intended for. Reading articles on the web I am fascinated to learn that Johannesburg city was built on New York cities ideas and to the Johannesburg city was called mini New York it is very sad to see what it has become. Sandton has now taken reign on the main business hub due to Johannesburgs decay. I as a 17 year aspire to be one of South Africas presidents and take charge of this uncontrollable spread of mismanaged country. New York was once in the same boat as we were in the 1970s, litter,crime and mismanaged funds but look were they are now. Let's make a difference and clean Johannesburg up. As a student schooling in the Johannesburg area I have a view of the Carlton Centre and Hillbrow tower from one of my classroom windows and I have a vision of Joahnnesburg city being just like Sandton or even better. We cannot let this vintage icon disappear.
