Robert Quíntero, San Jose, CA, United States of America
I constantly have to listen to yelling and screaming due to the homeless encampment outside the fence and constantly have to have listen to the police come over here once to twice a day to stop the arguements. There are children living in the complex, and the homeless tend to walk around the complex and jump into the pool enclosure and shower in the pools. Recently had to call the police for a pair of people whom lived on the opposite side of the fence trying to fornicate in the hot tub. I personally feel this is not appropriate.

Anonymous, San Jose, CA, United States of America
This is absolutely not the right solution. Either get these people real housing with services, or don't locate them near residential housing with children, libraries, and a park right next door. We already have a low income housing unit across the street at Oak Tree Village. Don't concentrate poverty in our neighborhood. Neighborhoods like Almaden and Willow Glen need to do their part to deal with the homeless problem. The camp should go in one of those affluent neighborhoods instead of our neighborhood having to absorb more of this problem. We have a large homeless population already. Do your job representing this community Mr. Jiménez and force the City Council to do this right or do it somewhere else.

The City of San Jose owns vacant properties and buildings that can be converted to shelter that will have less impacts on established quiet residential neighborhoods. For example the city owns big spaces near its central corp yard along Senter Rd, where there are no residents immmediately adjacent to it.

John Doe, San Jose, California, United States of America
Be VERY careful what you wish for in providing any service that would attract a density of homeless. A large Mobile Home Park in the immediate area has been struggling for two years now dealing with intruders from adjacent homeless encampments who have assaulted residents; threaten Park employees, steal residents hanging laundry, bicycles and anything else of value that isn’t anchored down. They break into the Park’s pool area (to take baths) and restrooms (for showers). There are car break-ins, defecation/urination in residents’ yards, hypodermic needles lying about. There are bloodcurdling screams heard at all hours, gas generators running late at night and the strong odor of uncontained garbage. I suspect the majority of those supporting Homeless Shelters DON’T live within a mile of such a location. So many wish to be sympathizers of the homeless, so long as they aren’t in their backyard… Dear District 2 Representative, Sergio Jimenez, are you proposing such a shelter adjacent to your personally “owned” property. If so, kudos for practicing what you preach. If not, I suggest you lead by example!
