One of the reasons why I used to use the BBC website was because its design was less 'corporate' and 'strident' than other news websites. It reflected the BBC's public service status and was a comfortable, familiar and trusted, just like BBC tv and radio. Why not do the same as Google Adsense user interface and keep both old and new templates accessible and let people choose. I think I know which one the majority of visitors would prefer.

The navigation of the old site was much better with vertical navigation links. Here in Canada I rarely check the video which is frequently buggy and is ad saturated to the point of being unwatchable.
