The are also using arrest records, without confirmation of conviction or non-conviction to deny employment.
The laws need to protect people from such practices.

Danylle Fleming, Fort Myers, FL, United States of America
I think laws need to be passed to prohibit employers from turning someone away for work , solely on the basis of background. Yes, their are people who have made mistakes in their lives, but many have learned from their mistakes and would like a chance to lead a normal life. How can one CHANGE if they are not given the opportunity to live right in society.Once a person has paid there debt to society I feel they should be given a fair chance to rehebilitate their self.

John Renninger, Port Richey, Florida, United States of America
There should be a 7year cap, unless it is a child crime or violent crime, walmart denies
employment from charge from 15 years ago.
there should be no credit checks there is no reason to pry into a persons credit. and no reason to do SS check this was put in place for tax deductions purpose only. Florida needs to put a stop to this or make it manditory that the employer submit the same information to the employee, we also have the same right to know about who we are working for

I complained to my State Senator (Matt Mccoy) of Iowa and he said that there is a current bill that will be brought forth to the floor not allowing insurance companies to use credit reports and that he will put in that employers should not be able to use it too.

Anonymous, Burlington, NJ, United States of America
Background checks should be limited to 7 years as they once were. Statistically, it is proven if an ex-felon has lived successfully for more than 7 years the likelyhood of them returning to a life of crime is nil to none. How are people supposed to re-establish a productive life if they are repeately refused gaineful employment due to past embarrassements.

Bonnie Swan, Winter Haven, Florida, United States of America
I definitely believe in this petition, our personal business is not the business of potential employment, we are looking for work to pay on our personal obligations. Credit checks and background checks have gotten way way out of control. The state wonders why our employment rate is so high. I hope this petition opens some eyes and look at what is going on.

Katherine Radley, Highland City, Florida, Polk, United States of America
I agree. Just because a person has bad credit or credit problems, does not mean they are not hard workers. It probably means they paid their rent and bought food for their families instead of paying credit card bills. We all have to make hard choices at times, and when times get rough, paying for the necessities are a bit more important. Not being able to find a decent job because your credit is "unacceptable" does not help the situation and just brings harder times onto people. I should know.
