In an age where just about every other aspect of government chooses to utilise the electronic age to it's advantage - to the detriment of the people it is supposed to be "governing (and I use that term loosely, because our federal parliament seems to be full of those who would commit TREASON against it's own people!) why must an archaic government insist on maintaining such archaic methods for petitioning?

If it is legal to do trade and bank online, than it must be perfectly legal to obtain signatures from Australians that have similar feelings about ANY issue and communicate these to the Australian Government. This is the 21st century of technology, and we certainly have advanced in mostly other ways. It is NOT acceptable for the Australian Government to turn a blind eye, especially seeing that most fed and state Governments have social internet networks to promote information and for elections. The Australian Govt also uses the media for mass communications, and it should be reciprocal for the citzens to use the internet to communicate with the Australian govt. This is tax payer dollars and should be a tax payer decision, if democracy is to be prevalent. It would be absolutely fake and hyprocrytical to any world, to NOT allow petitions or any internet communications with the Australian Government. We are also supposed to be 'Leading' in the UN security council, but still possess qualities that contradict most other developed and developing countries, especially in todays advancement in Information Technology. IT should be used as a tool, not hindrance.
