Don't Let Dedalus Die

The Arts Council is proposing to axe funding to Dedalus Publishers in Cambridgeshire from January 2008, which will almost certainly lead to the company’s closure, just as it was about to celebrate 25 years of publishing.

Dedalus is one of the most important independent literary publishers and translation houses in the UK, and one of a dying breed. It publishes English language fiction, which has been translated into 23 languages and has commissioned translations from 14 modern European languages, winning many Literary Awards along the way.

Dedalus is a cultural asset to this country, and provides a very good return for the small £24,958 annual grant it receives from The Arts Council.

No Parallel Importation of Books into Australia

The Australian Government is considering whether to abolish the Restrictions on Parallel Imports of Books into Australia. If it goes ahead this action will have drastic effects on Australian-authored fiction and non-fiction books - and causing the loss of many jobs in the publishing, printing and distribution industries.
We want 'Google Translate' in Gurmukhi

We want 'Google Translate' to create a Gurmukhi language.

Gurmukhi (Punjabi: ਗੁਰਮੁਖੀ, Gurmukhī) is the most common script used for writing the Punjabi language. An abugida derived from the Laṇḍā script and ultimately descended from Brahmi, Gurmukhi was standardized by the second Sikh guru, Guru Angad Dev Ji, in the 16th century. The whole of the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji's 1430 pages are written in this script. The name Gurmukhi is derived from the Old Punjabi term "guramukhī", meaning "from the mouth of the Guru".

Let's Get Bill Willingham to draw Issue 101 of FABLES!

Bill Willingham is best-known throughout the world as the writer and creator of the multiple Eisner-award winning DC/Vertigo comic book Fables. However, he is somewhat less well-known for his tremendous ability as an artist (as his schedule demands that he focus on his writing) and we would very much enjoy to see a Fables story written and drawn by Bill Willingham to spotlight this slightly lesser-known ability.

Therefore, We, the undersigned, hereby petition Bill Willingham, to provide the cover for and pencil issue #101 (inks by regular Fables artist Mark Buckingham) in addition to his regular duties as the author. We think that this would be a very special issue indeed. Bill has graciously agreed to adhere to our wishes should we succeed in getting at least 1,000 signatures in a somewhat reasonable amount of time. Therefore, we would very much appreciate it if you could sign our petition. However, please be advised that Bill will only accept signatures by real people signing under their real names. Anonymous signatures will not be counted.

Thank you very much and here's to the future fun of Fables!

Sincerely yours,

Continue the Hallowmere Series

NEWS!! (October 5, 1010)
There is a new Hallowmere story Out!!!! It's an ebook, and the link to it is http://www.bookviewcafe.com/index.php/component/option,com_jcs/Itemid,572/task,add/

Tiffany Trent said that it's written in the Fey Prince's view, and it reveals the identity of the Capitan!!! Personally, I can't wait to read it!

--------------------------------------

Expert From http://ww2.wizards.com/books/mirrorstone/Submissions.aspx :

"Mirrorstone will be shifting direction beginning in 2009 to focus exclusively on publishing novels for young readers inspired by the lore of Dungeons & Dragons."

For, those of you that don't know, Hallowmere is a book that was published by MirrorStone in 2007. When they walked away from Hallowmere in 2009, publishing 6 out of 10 books, it left thousands of readers hanging on a cliff, praying the next installment will come. This is where this comes in. Unlike the readers just hanging there, slowly slipping into the abyss, you chose to grab a gun and say to Mr. Stone with a ferocity in your voice that you've never met before, "You better come back. I didn't come with you just to be left hanging." Courage is a catching thing, and before you know it, many guns join yours, and Mirror has no choice but to help you up. Right now, though, we are still at the pointing phase.

PUT YOUR GUN WITH OURS! MIRRORSTONE WILL HAVE TO HEED OUR CALLS!!

We are the PHANs, and we won't put away our Guns!!!

Marauders Series

Millions of people all over the world read the Harry Potter Books. Now that the series has come to an end, Harry Potter fans, such as myself, need something new to look forward to.

This is why I am petitioning J.K. Rowling to write a series (or at least one book) about the Marauders (as in the marauders map from the Harry Potter Series) For those of you who don't know who the marauders are, they are James Potter (Harry's Father) and his three best friends.

I believe that many Harry Potter fans would love the chance to learn more about James Potter (Prongs), Sirius Black (Padfoot), Peter Pettigrew (Wormtail), and Remus Lupin (Moony).
