Awdal Region is bordered by Ethiopia, Djibouti, Hargiasa, and the Gulf of Aden. It is primarily inhabited by people from the Somali ethnic group “the Gadaboursi” The population of the region was 305,455 in October 2012. The last two decades, there was educational, social and economic development.

On 18th July 1957 till today, we have been the audience of the BBC Somali Services, but we have never been satisfied with BBC Somali services because region’s universities graduated from hundreds every year, some protests happened in the region, there have been some socio-economic developments, there was conflicts in the last local elections between Somaliland administration and Awdal citizens, all these crucial news never been heard in the BBC Somali Services.

World should recognize the Republic of Somaliland

Having broken away from Somalia and declared independence in 1991, the Republic of Somaliland bordering on the former British colony has been denied recognition and aid.

Poor and isolated, it is making an effort to achieve a peaceful blend of democracy and cultural tradition which is rarely found in the African countries that do receive international aid. It is a unique experiment and an example to the rest of the continent.

We say No to the President of Somaliland for his illegitimate dismissal of Hargeisa Regional Health Board

The Hargeisa Regional Health Board has been rehabilitating and rebuilding Hargeisa Group Hospital -the biggest referral hospital in Somaliland from 1991-up to now on a volunteer basis. The president disbanded and reprimanded them without consulting the community who selected them, or not even saying thank you.

This misuse of power tantamount to dictatorial tendency of President Riyale, and if not checked will damage the health of our nascent democracy, Democracy cannot survive without good governance build upon accountability, transparency and respect of law.

For consistent human rights violation of Riyale's government Click this link: http://www.americanchronicle.com/articles/view/146295

We say No to that, and no to a group selected by the government without consulting the people in Hargeisa region. Please sign this and add your voice.

We ask Rayaale to step down respectfully

"We Somalilanders of the diaspora, call on citizens at home and abroad and all friends of Somaliland to ask Rayaale to step down respectfully."

Despite a motion of impeachment approved in the House of Representatives ( Elected), President Rayaale of Somaliland is clinging to power, and wants to offset with counter-motion from the Upper House (unelected) and whose term the President extended by full four years in 2007.

www.somalilandpress.com/8730/somaliland-guurti-postpone-extension-motion/
www.somalilandpress.com/8736/somaliland-parliament-approves-impeachment-motion/

President Rayaale failed the most important duty in a democracy, holding election on time. That election was due on April 2008. It was twice delayed by Guurti( unelected Upper Chamber), the last one to 29 September2008, thus extending the President's term to 29 October 2009 ( An extension of 18 months).

The failed President asks the same Guurti to extend his term, third time. This political seesaw, took Somaliland back to dark episode of dictatorship, an era they hardly afford to remember. There has been a series of peaceful demonstrations, which the authority used force to disperse, killing three and wounding dozens, with a detention of over sixty. READ VOICE OF AMERICA: 3 Killed in Somaliland Protests.

The international communities expressed concern over the deterioration of democracy in Somaliland. Read the following report article:
http://www.progressio.org.uk/progressio/internal/98298/concern_at_indefinite_postponement_of_som/

We believe President Rayaale is either incapable to hold elections, or worst is sticking to power illegaally. Somaliland, unrecognized nation that was on the verge of recognition due to its stability and remarkable democratic institutions is turning into a cobweb of despotic leadership.

President Rayaale is openly bidding Guurti votes with the hardly earned nations meagre resources. Land and public properties are sold without tender, fishing licence are offered secretly, and independent media is constantly under threat. The government owned media, radio and TV are solely used by the ruling Party propaganda. Even the news of the Parliament is not allowed to be aired. There is no judiciary Independence, and the police are under the thump of the executive body.

To save Somaliland from certainty of instability and violence that accompany with selfish leadership that holds to power at all cost, material and moral, we call for your help to join us in this petition.

Support UN Membership for Somaliland

We are a pro-democratic movement in Somaliland, comprising independence human rights organizations, operating under national level nongovernmental umbrellas and networks wish to request your support for an issue that is close to the hearts of three and half million persons who live in Somaliland. This is the matter of United Nations membership and recognition for republic of Somaliland.

The Republic of Somaliland is a free and peace-loving state, and its democratically elected government is the only one that represents the interests and wishes of the people of Somaliland.

The nascent democracy in Somaliland needs support against those who hate freedom, democracy and universal human rights. It is time the leaders of United State and United Kingdom as well as other world leaders support and grant international recognition to Republic of Somaliland before the fundamentalist groups linked international terrorists networks such as Al Qaida come to ruin the peace, fragile democracy institutions, human rights culture and stability Somaliland has achieved.

Definitely, that the recognition of Somaliland would enhances the security of the United States of America, United Kingdom, Europe, Asia including Middle East and that of the Africa including Horn of African region. Non-recognition, however, will have disastrous consequences and induce terrorism to thrive and spread beyond the Horn of Africa region and world as well.
