The Maryland legislature recently approved what is known as the Maryland Trust Act: HB 0754
Governor Hogan calls the bill "outrageous and it makes Maryland a sanctuary state. The issue is really about prohibiting our state and local law enforcement officials from cooperating with federal authorities."
The Governor adds, "If we have someone in prison, we're holding them and the federal authorities say that we have a detainer, a warrant on this person, we hold them for 48 hours, this law would prohibit us from doing that, so we'd have to let them all out on the street."
This bill was created only three days after a 14 year-old child was brutally raped, sodomized, and forced to do other sexual acts. The defense attorney, David Moyse, for the accused rapist implied the incident was consensual.
If you are outraged by this chain of events and the legislatures push to become a sanctuary state, please sign my petition.
As a signer of this petition, I am telling the Maryland legislature that I absolutely do not want Maryland to be a sanctuary state, and that I view their efforts to do so abhorrent in light of recent events.
