As of February 2018 the Department of state growth has decided to change the bus services in the Ulverstone area, axing our 2 main bus companies Buses R Us and Wallace Coaches. Instead of 1 bus their will be 6 buses travelling in a loop running for a total of 15 minutes (8:20am till 8:35am).
Most of our children will have to walk up to 500+ meters to get to and from bus stops. Our children will have different drivers instead of one consistent known driver. We need our buses and bus routes to stay as is for the safety of our children.
*Children by law are not allowed to cross a road without an adult present.
*Working parents travelling to and from Devonport/Burnie will have to find alternative methods to be able to continue to get children to school safely, whilst getting to work on time.
*Children will get sick in winter due to the long walk to and from bus stops, as well as no shelter from weather, Meaning more days off school, more time off work.
*Children with disabilities will have to deal with multiple buses and drivers (this will be extremely difficult for children with Autism, who do not handle change, more than likely resulting in aggressive behavior or major meltdowns).
*There will be confusion for children and parents, children will more than likely get off at the wrong bus stop, even to the extent of travelling and getting off in Devonport, Nietta or Riana, leaving parents panicked and searching for lost children.
*Pedophiles lurk everywhere, our children will become an easy target for these people given the 500+ meter walks.
*Congestion build up is bad enough around schools, without forcing parents to drop off and pick up, making this worse and an even higher risk factor of our children being hit by a car.
*There will be many job loses which will put our unemployment status even higher than it already is.
*The bus fees will rise putting even more financial strain on families.
The Department of state growth is not making the change to help families and protect our children, in fact when all above where raised it was a simple "Not my problem".
The Department of state growth are doing this so parents wont want to use the school bus service , so the school bus service wont be needed at all.

My name is Kristy Taylor and I am working along side Kylie Sherrif, between the 2 of us we have 7 children aged between 5,6,8,10,12 and 13 that use the current bus service and routes in ulverstone2 of the 7 children have disabilities one with autism severity level 2 and one with an intellectual disability. Another child has an anxiety disorder. We are starting this petition to save our buses and bus routes to protect our children. We have until 24th November to get to our goal. Us the parents are our children's voice, lets stand together and save our buses and bus routes, Lets keep our children safe.
