Lidl have recently submitted a planning application for the old Police Station and Council Depot site on Villiers Road/Shirley High Street. (Application number 17/01206/FUL with a public response deadline of Friday 18th August)

As part of this application they propose to remove the Yew tree that forms an iconic part of Shirley High Street. This petition is to show the level of support for maintaining the Yew tree as part of this, or any future plans for redevelopment at the site.

When planning permission was granted to build the police station in 1970, one of the conditions was to ensure the tree was retained and every reasonable step was taken to ensure its safety during construction of the police station. Nothing has changed in those 47 years!

We, the undersigned, fully support the campaign to protect and maintain the mature Yew tree on Shirley Road, immediately outside the old police station.

This tree must not be removed, damaged or destroyed as part of any future demolishment or construction around the old police station/council depot site.

We agree to our petition data being used by Steven Galton (the petition organiser) to pass on to Southampton City Council to inform the planning department on Lidl's current and any future planning application that affects this tree.

Personal data including your address/email may also be used by Steve to provide updates on the progress of the campaign or information on Lidl's planning application progression. Information will not be passed to any third party or used commercially in anyway.

The Save the Yew tree on Shirley High Street petition to Southampton City Council Planning Department was written by Steven Galton and is in the category Environment at GoPetition.
