The Goal. To stop the harassment of and the discrimination against Idaho mothers breastfeeding in public.

The Problem. As the last American state to implement laws that aim to protect the rights of nursing mothers all across the state, Idaho presents breastfeeding women with very few options. Federal law allows women to breastfeed their children in public. However, there is no law against harassing them while doing so. As a result, restaurant owners face no legal repercussions if they refuse to serve a nursing mother or ask them to leave outright because in their minds, breastfeeding in public is “inappropriate”, or even “indecent”.

A law with no enforcement provision is a law that has no teeth. It is unable to completely protect the rights of those it was intended to protect. Something has to be done.

The Solution. No child deserves to go hungry, and all mothers should have the right to provide their child with the kind of nutrition that simply cannot be found in any milk formula, regardless of time or place. To deny this right is to allow a child to go hungry unnecessarily. Since Idaho’s existing laws are not enough to prevent the harassment of and discrimination against breastfeeding mothers, an enforcement provision must be set in order to further protect their rights.

A safe and worry-free environment is the key to a successful breastfeeding experience. Join us and let Idaho’s nursing mothers experience the same freedom that other women all across the country already enjoy.
