THIS PETITION REFLECTS MY THOUGHTS AS AN ORDINARY BLUE COLLAR GUY WHO CARES ABOUT CANADA; This won't fit on the Government e petition site,It is not sponsored or put forth by an MP but hopefully the simple full content resonates with Canadians who care where we once were and where we may be going and that really matters for us,our children and their children.This is not about hatred,racism or bigotry.It's about the reality and the truth we've seen world wide unfold around us with respect to the integration of Islam as a religion with political ideology and how our country may be impacted in the future.
Islam is a religion of 1.5 billion world wide. As per our last known household survey(2011)there were approximately 1.1 million Muslims residing in Canada. The Pew Research Forum on Religion and Public Life projected that by 2030 our Muslim population could reach 2.7 million representing 7% of our population which in and of itself in accordance with our open inclusive societal fabric and principles would be welcomed.
Many Canadians are not as welcoming to the possibility that Islamic or Sharia Law could in any way affect or influence Canada's long standing adherence to and respect for our dual legal system under the Constitution.Elsewhere attitudes toward Sharia Law vary greatly by region. As per Pew Research(2013)in South Asia 84% favor Sharia as the highest law in the land,in Southeast Asia 77% do,in the Middle East and North Africa 74% do,in Sub Saharan Africa 64% do,in Southern/Eastern Europe 18% do in Central Asia 12% do.The question arises and presents as how many from these areas entering our country carry that belief system and considers Sharia to be their only rule of law regardless of their new country?
In this regard with all due respect to the freedoms of religion in Canada and our constitutionally protected rights which allows believers to assemble and worship without limitation or interference,we must also be assured that neither our Charter nor the foundation laws of our judicial system can ever be countermanded,usurped,encroached or infringed upon by any.Nor should our system ever be allowed to be placed beneath any other system of law,principles or ideologies regardless of origin or basis(religious or otherwise.)We stand a country with but one set of laws for all.
We the undersigned Citizens and residents of Canada therefore call upon the House of Commons assembled to join us in recognizing and assuring all Canadians that all of our foundation laws that have shaped and guided our country for decades under the Constitution Acts of 1867 and 1982,the "Supreme Law" of Canada under our dual legal system shall forever remain sacrosanct and inviolable by any other system of law,practice or ideology to include Sharia Law. Further,with all due respect, since M103 was and is "only a statement and not a bill we respectfully request that it not serve as a precursor to legislation. It is our strong belief that this government nor any other should be legislating against what citizens fear for reason. Based on European models we have much to fear. Based on principle we have much to fear and we should be allowed the freedom to express those fears and speak out against anything (including religious law) so long as it is peaceful and in adherence to Canadian legal protections as they already exist. Especially if those laws are contrary to our own with respect to women's rights to property and appropriate consent,personal status laws,child marriage or the treatment of gays and their inherent rights. In that vein the existence of "nushuz" within Sharia many,many feel encourages domestic violence against women for any form of actual or even perceived disobedience,disloyalty,rebellion or ill conduct and that is contrary to our culture,our morals and our laws We have been witness across the world to demands for Sharia Law both peacefully and not so peacefully and we cannot dismiss that movement as "over there" and "never here"For those who shrug it away in Canada as nonsense, you need only look south of our borders to see the Sharia creep and why more than 22 States have seen fit to some form of anti Sharia legislation. In conclusion, we respectfully ask that M103 remain a mindful statement to all Canadians and goes no further and that the majority of Canadians need not ever fear allowances for Sharia Law in Canada at least until such time as we are no longer the majority.
