North Park has always been used as graduate student housing at Dartmouth College and is the center of the graduate community presence on campus. In the 2016-2017 academic year, one-third of of North Park was used to house undergraduate students in part to accommodate the graduate Resident Fellows within our new housing system.

However, with this year’s record breaking undergraduate yield rate, Dartmouth now seeks to find housing to accommodate an incoming undergraduate class of a size for which it is unprepared. The administration, in conjunction with Student Affairs, is now considering converting the entirety of North Park into undergraduate student housing. This would leave graduate students with Sachem Village as the only college-associated community-style housing option, for which space is already limited. This move is exceptionally problematic for international graduate students, those who do not own their own means of transportation, and those who do not have the financial means to furnish their own apartment.

Please consider signing this petition and sharing your thoughts if you disagree that displacing graduate students is a solution to the undergraduate housing issue--North Park should remain Dartmouth's on-campus graduate community.

We, the undersigned, call on the administration and Trustees of Dartmouth College to preserve graduate student housing at North Park.
