SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome) statistics include but are not limited to the following. 3,500 cases of SIDS are reported every year in the Untied States.

Thousands more all over the world. Pediatric doctors report that SIDS is one of the main causes of post neonatal infant deaths for babies following one month of age. The majority of SIDS cases happen from 2 to 4 months of age but have been reported up to one year.

SIDS statistics show more cases are reported in the winter months. Males are more likely to die of SIDS than females. A good majority of SIDS cases report the newborns had a respiratory infection or was not feeding as usual prior to the sudden death. 73% of cases of SIDS deaths reported were at daycare facilities. The second child born and so are are at higher risk for SIDS.

10 out of our 50 states have no laws in place or protocols for SIDS. The other majority are very limited and most are only protocols for the medical examiner and coroner. Our first response teams and medical professionals do not have the training to handle SIDS cases.

We, the undersigned, call upon the United States Government to pass laws that would require all 50 states to have the minimum basic protocols and regulations set forth requiring all emergency first response teams, law enforcement, medical technicians, firefighters, and paramedic to have extensive training on handling sudden, unexplained infant death.

Requiring all childcare facilities or groups who care for children 24 months and younger to undergo extensive training on SIDS awareness and prevention. Hospitals and birthing centers be required to give information pamphlets containing SIDS resources, statistics, and prevention.
