Petition:
‘UN must probe U.S. crimes’
The Jaathika Hela Urumaya is preparing a massive petition of a million signatures calling upon the United Nations to appoint a commission to probe America’s crimes against humanity. The JHU commenced collecting signatures for the petition this week at the Sri Lanka Army’ exhibition held to commemorate the SLA’s 60th anniversary and its victory over the LTTE terrorists.
He petition is a response to the United States making false allegations against Sri Lanka on human rights violations. The JHU has accused the U.S. government of launching a malicious campaign to tarnish this country’s global image and isolate the island. The party attributes this to an international conspiracy hatched by the U.S. and her allies to bring war crimes charges against Sri Lankan leaders and generals who fought to defeat terrorism with firm determination. The aim of this plot is to reverse Sri Lankan people’s victory over terrorism, according to the JHU.
The party therefore stresses the importance of probing American war crimes in the context of the disreputable history of the U.S. starting with the massacre of native Americans as well as crimes committed in Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan and the CIA plots in countries like Chile, Guatemala, Grenada, Congo, Panama and Nicaragua.
