The Palau National Marine Sanctuary will increase our fish stocks, thereby improving our domestic fishing industry, bolstering our food security, supporting our tourism sector, and protecting our cherished way of life.
The Sanctuary does not affect fishing in state waters at all. It also will allow for locally registered fishing boats to fish in Domestic Fishing Zone - a large area encircling the island withing Palau's Exclusive Economic Zone.
We urge the Olbiil Era Kelulau to pass this bill so that our nation, our economy, our traditions, and our people can continue to thrive.
We the undersigned stakeholders hereby express our strong support for the Palau National Marine Sanctuary, and we urge the members of the Olbiil Era Kelulau to immediately pass legislation to make it a reality.
