Selbourne Homes have lodged a planning application with Sandwell council to build on the woodland section from the Thimblemill Recreation Centre on Thimblemill Road, Smethwick, B67 6NR.

They are planning to demolish the woodland and build 13No properties consisting of 4No bedrooms to each property with dwellings and garages to 2 or 3 storey high. The reason for this petition is that this woodland is a natural habitat for the wildlife that live / nest there. This will be destroyed!

Lightwoods Park, Warley Woods and thimblemill brook areas are constantly occupied by the public, and wildlife is constantly disturbed, this section of woodland in the Thimblemill Rec grounds the last remaining historic section of undisturbed woodland. It is now being proposed to be cleared for these 13No houses. We have enough unsold newly built houses locally. Other Brown belt areas / or even other sections of the Thimblemill Rec centre not containing wildlife, could of been sold to build on. This woodland is left undisturbed and is the prime breeding ground / home to all wildlife.

The Thimblemill Road highways with children crossing is dangerous, there has been several accidents and a death there recently, we don't need this additional traffic on Thimblemill Rd. We hope that all of Sandwell will sign this petition to prevent this destruction of the small section of natural woodland we have left in our community to save our wildlife and persons being put at risk from more road users on Thimblemill Road. The proposed houses especially the 3 storey are not in character with our surrounding homes locally.
