Senate Bill 621, a bill that could severely harm ORCA and other Oregon charter schools, is scheduled for a hearing on March 22nd. The bill would require that 80% of students in a charter school be residents of the district that sponsors the charter -- which would put ORCA at risk right away--and limit the number of students who could attend charter school within any district to no more than 10%, which would hurt every charter school in Oregon. The bill would also put new restrictions on charter school teachers.
Simply fill out the online form below, including your email address, and show your opposition to SB621. This online petition will be delivered to the committee at the hearing. Your voice does count and we need to show strong opposition to this harmful bill. Please take a couple of minutes right now and fill out this petition for ORCA and all Oregon charter schools!

Dear Chair Walker and members of the Senate Education Committee,
We, the undersigned, strongly oppose Senate Bill 621.
We care deeply about Oregon’s public education system, and we believe that charter schools are an integral part of one of the best public school systems in the country. Senate Bill 621 would unnecessarily hinder the growth of public charter schools in Oregon.
Requiring teachers to be part of the local union, and restricting students from attending charter schools in neighboring districts would not only close down the state’s largest charter, Oregon Connections Academy, but would also remove the flexibility charter schools need to innovate and succeed.
We respectfully request you oppose Senate Bill 621 and allow charter schools to continue in Oregon.
Sincerely,
The Undersigned
