Veterans of the heritage presevation struggle have informed me that although our petition is well intentioned, petitions only serve to provoke the authorites to further eradication of these sites. I am therefore closing the petition.
I do however encourage all Brothers and Sisters to continue creating awareness. Our lack of awareness is part of the problem.
Imminent construction work in the Haramayn puts the last heritage sites connected to Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam at risk, including Masjid al-Ghamaamah where he performed Eid Salaah.
In the past 2 decades 95% of Islamic heritage sites in the Haramayn have been lost. Time is running out and action needs to be taken.
Please sign this petition to be forwarded to the Ministry of Culture in the Haramayn.
We, the undersigned, ask Allah to reward the Haramayn authorities for their services to the pilgrims and the Ummah in general.
We however express our deep concern at the pending loss of sites connected to Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and the early Muslims, in particular Masjid al-Ghamaamah.
We beseech the authorities to consider the feelings of the Ummah in matters of common heritage. We propose that a committee be established to consider the most viable way to accommodate the needed expansions without endangering our heritage.
This committee should be composed of international Ulama and Muslim architects, engineers, archeologists and any other professionals the authorities deem fit.
We further nominate Sami Angawi to chair this committee.
