April 23, 2008 Update
Yesterday, we learned that 3 of 8 MOVE members have been denied parole. Given this precedent, it is expected that the other 5 will be similarly denied. Thanks to everyone who signed, sent letters and emails, and who spread the word!
Because MOVE members will be up for parole now every year, I will keep this petition up and send it yearly to the board. Visit antimove.blogspot.com for updates.
--------------------------------------
The MOVE 9 were convicted and sentenced to 30-100 year jail sentences in 1981 for the murder of police officer James Ramp and for the attempted murder of seven other police officers and firefighters during a MOVE instigated 1978 shoot-out in Philadelphia.
At sentencing, Judge Malmed said that he found the notion of rehabilitation for MOVE members to be "absurd" and that each must share equally the guilt for the killing and attempted murders.
Soon, the parole proceedings will begin for the surviving eight members of “MOVE 9" (one member of the cult died in prison in 1998) and MOVE has been attempting to pressure the parole board into releasing these convicted murderers.
It should be noted that one of the MOVE members involved in the 1978 killing, and who was tried separately from the other MOVE members has already been released on parole.
These cop-killers have never taken responsibility for their actions and despite being in jail, have worked to recruit new adherents for the sect and disseminate it’s vulgar message of hate.
We, the undersigned, call upon the parole board to not be swayed by MOVE’s duped supporters and keep these unrepentant murderers in prison where they belong.
