On July 16, 2007 Sierra Entertainment made an announcement to shut off the NR2003 game servers a month later on August 16. By doing this, they would be putting a halt to easy to find races with the best stock car simulation game to date.

The Sierra game servers still host 150-500 racers a night. The community is still alive. Real drivers have said it: no game matches up.

This announcement will limit racers to racing only on IP, which makes it difficult to find new drivers and races. Keep the Sierra servers online, at least for this game. It's too soon to take them away.

Below is the official announcement.

We, the undersigned, call Sierra to keep the NASCAR Racing 2003 Season servers alive.

This game is the best stock car simulation to date, and turning off the Sierra servers for NR2003 would kill a community that is still thriving, although smaller in number than it was years ago.

The Keep Sierra NR2003 Servers Alive petition to Sierra Entertainment was written by Anonymous and is in the category Gaming at GoPetition.
