Birmingham Falls Elementary School should Go Green

Target: Birmingham Falls Elementary School and the Fulton County Board of Education
Background (Preamble):
Around 4,000 flyers/newsletters are sent home to all the families at BHFES each week or every other week. Some families have more than one child at school so the information coming home is duplicated and even triplicate in some instances.

The school has parents specifically volunteer their time to come in and distribute weekly and stuff bi-weekly folders due to the quantity of paper being used and sent home. Parents are frustrated they are not receiving responses to emails or email communication from the Principal, and have been made aware that limited email communication and restrictions have been placed on the staff and teachers.

This is not conducive to good relationships between the parents, staff and teachers of this school, and is an obstacle to better communication. We need to implement an already proven system currently being used by most all other schools in Fulton County, which includes a Website for our school and Constant Contact. This will improve the relationship between all and eliminate waste and make us responsible stewards of our environment.

It is important not to just talk about "going green," but to teach our children to walk the walk when it comes to being responsible and considerate of the environment around us.
Petition:
We the undersigned, Parents of the children at Birmingham Falls Elementary School in Milton, Georgia, hereby petition Principal Tracy Trussell and the FCBOE to implement as soon as possible, a Website for our school in addition to Constant Contact.

These things are readily available for our school with today’s technology, as they are utilized in most all schools in Fulton County. This is absolutely necessary to improve and increase communication with the parents, teachers and staff, and will eliminate the unnecessary wasteful use of paper products. The amount of paper which goes home to the families of this school is irresponsible to our environment, a waste of trees, and taxpayer money.

We acknowledge in some instances there will be the need for paper communication, however the majority of information should be communicated to the parents through the school’s website and electronic newsletter. In addition to this we are asking for recycle bins in the school cafeteria so that our children can be responsible stewards to the environment by recycling their lunches and trash.
