For six years the Mykonos Animal Welfare has asked the Town hall of Mykonos to assume their responsibility for the animals. The law dictates that each municipality must provide the financial aid for the sterilisation and treatment of cats as well as the microchipping and care of the dogs.
Mykonos still has no basic animal shelter or organised help from the Town Hall. For all of 2011 and 2012 Mykonos Animal Welfare has financed all rescues, treatements and sterilisations without any aid from the Town Hall.
We are going backwards not forwards will this situation.
We, the undersigned, call on the Town hall of Mykonos to take over the responsibility that is theirs of the care and treatment of the animals of Mykonos.
Financial aide, a small shelter, a worker and vehicle are needed to create an environment where volunteers can help and take part in caring for our four legged friends. Its not a lot to ask considering we are the richest island in Greece.
