Thank you all so much for your incredible support. Through legal council, we have gained a bit of time while some paperwork is in process, and so we will definitely be with you through the holiday season, and if things go as planned, hopefully much longer. We have already been receiving help from the Hon. Libby Davies office and will be presenting her with this completed petition. It is your help and support which gives us the optimism and strength to fight to remain here. Very gratefully yours, Burgundy and The Purrrfessor
Burgundy Brixx and The Purrfessor (aka Kirsten Hogan and Douglas Thoms) have been asked to leave Canada by December 2nd, 2010. The request was given upon review and subsequent rejection of an application for a new work permit to continue to work legally in Canada.
Since their arrival three years ago, Burgundy Brixx and The Purrrfessor have become beloved and respected figures of the artistic community of Vancouver, creating and producing weekly cabaret events, serving on the board of the Vancouver International Burlesque Festival and providing hundreds of paid performance opportunities for talent from all over the Vancouver performing arts community and beyond, as well as creating numerous additional jobs staff of The Biltmore Cabaret due to the success of their show.
We the undersigned Canadian residents declare that Kirsten Hogan aka Burgundy Brixx and Douglas Thoms aka The Purrrfessor have made a major and tangible contribution to the cultural and artistic community of Vancouver, and of Canada itself.
Their absence would have dire and detrimental effects on the growth and sustenance of this growing artistic scene, and their specific contribution and dedication to our culture is irreplaceable. Please grant them additional time to file for new paperwork and to continue their devoted work in energizing our artistic community.
The Keep Burgundy Brixx and The Purrrfessor in Canada petition to Hon. Libby Davies, MP was written by Kirsten Hogan and is in the category Culture at GoPetition.
