Emoticon Fossil Fuel vs Nuclear
Created by Nuclear Plant Operator on Jul 20, 2004 12:29:26 GMT
Let us examine the differances between Nuclear Fuel and Fossil Fuel.

Fossil Fuel:
1) Causes air and water pollution that can lead to acid rain causeing death to forests worldwide even under normal operations.
2) United States relies too much on the Middle East for it's main source of this type of energy.
3) Oil and Natural Gas due to run out in 40 years, Coal about 300 years.
4) Requires large amounts of Fossil Fuels just to obtain a useable amount of energy.
5) Large amounts of Fossil Fuels mean large open pits and mines that not only destroys the environment but it puts miners at risk for no reason.
6) Has no medical purposes.
7) Can't be recycled, once fossil fuels has been used it can't be used again.
8) Mixed with normal household items, such as gasoline and detergent, a bomb can be created. I guess to prevent this from happening, the U.N. is just going to have to implement a worldwide ban on detergent. Just warn me ahead of time so this way I can find a desserted island so this way I won't have to smell the fuel odor cause by this ban.

Nuclear:
1)Has many safety devices that prevents human errors, only a trace amount of radiation is detected beyond the fuel containment room. Many power plant recycle the water used to cool the rods therefore little radiation and thermal pollution is released into the environment.
2) The United States is the main supply of uranium which is the main source of nuclear energy.
3) Pitchblende, the main source of uranium, is expected to last thousands of years.
4) Nuclear Fission requires a small amount of energy. Six once size pellet releases the same amount of energy as a ton of fossil fuels does. Nuclear Fussion requires an even smaller amount than Nuclear Fission does, just look at the Sun which has lasted 4.5 billion years and still as another 5 billion years of life left before it burns out.
5) Small amounts of energy means small mines. Nuclear Fussion is obtain by striping hydrogen of water, which means no mines or open pits.
6) Is used to treat cancer.
7) Can be recycled.
8) As long as proper security measures are taken the chances of a terrorist attack is small, therefore the changes of a bomb being created is almost non-existed.

It only makes sense to say that nuclear energy is the energy of the future.

I am for nuclear power and sick of hearing groups like Greenpeace greatly exaggerate the dangers which I have found during extenive research to be minimal. And Yucca Mountain is the perfect place to put the waste. Transporting it there is no problem either.

Paul, that's great, but if you lived in Chernobyl you'd now be dead from frigging radiation poisoning.

Yes, fossil fuels may be safer short term, but the Chernobyl region is a basket case.

Yes, basically fossil fuel is more safer than the nuclear! i think...

Yes but, if nuclear fission becomes possibly the worlds electricity problems will be solved. But otherwise we live in a world where the ozone is either being eaten away or the threat of nuclear explosions and our skin being eaten. So i think our only answer is to create a sustaniable nuclear fission!

nuclear energy should be used as an alternative to fossil feuls as fossil feuls are exhaustive while nuclear energy is recycleable...!
Emoticon Reply: What does the sun use? Nuclear fussion or nuclear fision?
