Thoughts on banning horse slaughter!
Created by MaxRide101 on Oct 19, 2009 13:54:32 GMT
I am one million percent against horse slaughter, and it would be a dream come true of mine to have it banned. I am wondering what everyone else's thoughts are. If you are pro-horse slaughter, I would like to hear your opinion. Thank you.
This topic is in the Animal Welfare forum and the Ban Horse Slaughter in Canada petition forum.

I´m not strictly against horse slaughter. Cows and pigs are also cute and nice. You can stop eating any meat, but it´s not fair to protect only one kind of animals. Sure, I wouldn´t eat my one animals. But it´s better to fight against the conditions of animals slaughter like stress and long transports.

I completely understand your position, Luxemburg, and I realize that everyone has different opinions. I have reviewed your point numerous times and I know what you are saying. However, horses are a very important part of my life, and I am doing what I feel is right. Standing up for what I believe in and fighting for it is the most I can do right now, being only 12, so I am doing it. If it doesn't make a differece, knowing that I tried is a good feeling. Thank you for sharing your opinion.

HI,
I have to tell you all that I am dissapointed in the ignorance of my fellow equine enthusiests. In loving horses and seeing everyday the equine industry, I have seen first hand the negative effects the horse slaughter ban has had on equine welfare and the industry. For example, in the summer of 2007 i went out to my barn to feed and found 7 horses that did not belong to me there. 3 of them lame and all of them too skinny, having no way to keep them I had to have them put down each one...

Costing me about $300 for euthinasia and removal. I couldn't afford this so the county took care of the costs. I assume the owners of these horses had the same issue and felt no outlet other than to abandon them. They had suffered for a long time, and were not useable to anyone so what else should they have sone with no alternative to letting them go to waste. I was sad for them but had they been able to be slaughtered they would have had a quick death and helped the economy...

I have heard alot of anti-horse slaughterers say that instead everyone needs to practice responcible horse ownership and breedless but it seems they are talking about everyone else not themselves;as they all have perfectly sound horses in their barns and breed back to their own mares they have fallen in love with rather than buying unfourtunate horses. or they own the best papered registered horses they bought from breeders themselves. So until I see anti-horse slaughter people giving money...

BAck to the foundations that are taking care of the unwanted horses and finding other outlets for the unwanted horses, and stop negatively effecting the economy of the equine world and the jobs of all equine professionals then I would love to join you in your protest towards horse slaughter plants, but until then I don't Know what else to do. I have also seen all of the horrifying videos on the radical cites and I know that worse is happening across borders where there r no regulations.
Reply: I totally agree AJ
I myself am also a horse lover!! in fact im a equine science major...but i must agree with AJ. The amount of unwanted horses right now is crazy...and the amount of people who cant afford their horses antmore is crazy too. Most of these horses are turned out to pasture or are starved or get turned out in the mountains...to what live horrible lives and waste away...Horse slaughter allows the population of horses to stay at a good number and not be throught the roof like they are now!!! AJ is right

Please attend a horse auction in any state and write down the highest price on the top selling horse. Then decide what the cost per lb is. Attend a cattle auction, write down the highest selling single bovine and then find how much they cost per lb. If you pay much attention at all the highest selling horse brings less than half of what the highest selling bovine brings. Congratulations for successfully bringing the horse economy down in record time. REASON: NO horse slaughter facilities
